I’ve finally added a calendar to my website! It’s something I’ve been tinkering with for a while, as I could never get the existing calendar plugins to work for me—many of them are designed for different kinds of use. But now I’ve managed to piece together something semi-homemade. On the Norwegian front page, you can see upcoming concerts, and if you go to “Hva skjer -> Kalender” you’ll find both upcoming and past events. By clicking the dates in the tables, you can access more info about each concert. If you’re on a piece’s page, a list of its performances also appears at the bottom. I’ve added concerts for works written over the last 10 years or so, but it’s not complete yet—the rest is on its way! It is unfortunately only in Norwegian, but the English version is on its way as well.
The calendar reveals that there are four performances remaining before Christmas! OsloHorns will perform two concerts in December, revisiting the short, staged work “As if no one’s watching.” You’ll have the chance to see and hear this piece and OsloHorns on December 11 in Eidsvoll and December 15 in Oslo.
But first comes the final premiere of the year! On November 30 and December 1, Ensemble Kammerklang will perform the brand-new “Can you hear me? (salt water variations).” The ensemble consists of flute, clarinet, piano, percussion, violin, and cello and is based in Vestfold, where I grew up! In addition to the regular instrumentation, you’ll also hear thunder instruments, a flip over, whistling and singing, and music boxes. When it comes to sonic material and inspiration, I can mention Debussy’s “La mer,” foghorns, shanties, the sound of mist, thunder and wind, and whale song. So the subtitle “salt water variations” is truly fitting! On November 30, they’ll perform in Tønsberg, and on December 1 in Sarpsborg.
