About

nattasang fra andre siden av havet begins tentatively and remains subdued and soft-spoken for a while. Air and key sounds in the winds, as well as bowing on wood in the strings, mix with the sound of the musicians whispering. Then, suddenly, a small child’s voice breaks in, babbling and singing, in the end taking control of the musicians’ pulse.

The Norwegian title translates to “lullaby from across an ocean”

Text from the CD booklet:

the first time I was away from my son

for more than a weekend

I was on Gotland

writing a piece for Oslo Sinfonietta

the only thing I knew for sure

was that his playful singing would be part of

the piece

I’ve never had such

longing for home

ever

as I had

towards the end

of my stay there

but in the end, I came home

“nattasang fra andre siden av havet” in my list of works
